Jammu, Oct 28: The BJP on Wednesday accused the National Conference (NC) government of neglecting the Jammu region, particularly the Hindu community, in the recent Cabinet reshuffle and predicted that internal differences could lead to a split in the ruling party.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, senior advocate and party chief spokesperson Sunil Sethi alleged that the reshuffle had hurt the sentiments of people in Jammu by failing to provide adequate regional and community representation.
Sethi was accompanied by party spokespersons Dr Abhijeet Singh Jasrotia, Zorawar Singh Jamwal and advocate Parimoksh Seth.
Sethi said the BJP had expected at least one of the three vacant Cabinet berths to go to Jammu, with greater representation for the Hindu community. He questioned the removal of Satish Sharma from the Cabinet and alleged that the decision overlooked the interests of the region.
He also claimed that only one Hindu minister remained in the Council of Ministers after the reshuffle and questioned why other Hindu legislators from the NC had not been accommodated.
The BJP spokesperson further alleged that the Cabinet changes had triggered resentment within the NC, with some leaders openly opposing the party leadership. He claimed the developments pointed towards a possible split in the party.
Criticising Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Sethi alleged that the reshuffle reflected favouritism and described the new Cabinet as a “kitchen cabinet”. He also accused the government of failing to ensure equitable representation for Jammu.
The BJP condemned the reshuffle, alleging that the region and its people had been denied their due share in the government. Sethi claimed the decisions could deepen divisions within the NC and weaken the party’s position in Jammu and Kashmir.
