Thiruvananthapuram: BJP criticised the resolution passed in the assembly seeking the removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar over the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. It described the move as political theatre by Congress and CPM. BJP state chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar argued on Monday that the assembly should not have taken up a matter pending before SC.Congress and CPM, which are rivals in Keralam, close ranks once elections are over, he alleged on social media. “They are not two, they are one,” he claimed. “If the demand is genuine, Congress-led UDF, which won the last assembly election in state and the then chief electoral officer, who is now CM V D Satheesan’s secretary, should move out,” he claimed. Chandrasekhar alleged that the people won’t accept the double standards of UDF and LDF.CPM and Congress have maintained that SIR was hasty and excluded genuine voters. They had cited reported objections raised by two election commissioners, which ECI rejected, as signs of dissent within the panel. Assembly resolutions are non-binding and removing a CEC requires a parliamentary process, he added.
