BITS Pilani has announced a significant shift in its admissions policy, introducing tuition-blind admissions for the top 500 rankers of BITSAT from the academic year 2026–27. The initiative aims to ensure that financial limitations do not restrict meritorious students from accessing quality engineering education.
Under the new policy, candidates securing a top 500 BITSAT rank and having an annual family income of up to ₹20 lakh will receive a full tuition scholarship for all four years, subject to maintaining a minimum CGPA of 7.5 at their respective campuses. The scholarship will be embedded directly into the admission offer, removing the need for students to apply separately after enrolment.
The move builds on BITS Pilani’s existing scholarship framework. In the last academic year, the institute disbursed ₹132 crore in merit and merit-cum-need scholarships, with nearly one in four students across campuses receiving financial assistance.
The initiative has been made possible through sustained institutional investment and increased alumni support. Over the coming years, the institute plans to expand the coverage progressively, with a long-term goal of moving towards tuition-blind admissions for a larger share of its student intake.
Commenting on the announcement, Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Group Vice Chancellor, BITS Pilani, said, “We have invested heavily in scholarships for years, but tuition blind admissions for our top 500 BITSAT rankers is a defining step. If you have the talent, money should not come in the way. We will keep expanding this year on year until we can make BITS fully tuition blind for every admission.”>
