Bipasha Basu has spoken candidly about the harsh body-shaming and trolling she endured following the birth of her daughter, Devi Basu Singh Grover, in 2022 with husband Karan Singh Grover. The actress opened up about the unfair pressure placed on women, especially new mothers, to bounce back to their pre-pregnancy shape almost immediately after childbirth.

Bipasha Basu on the “bizarre” conversation around women’s bodies

Speaking to Elle India, Bipasha shared, “The conversation around women’s bodies is quite bizarre even now. Magically, when you give birth, you are supposed to get back into the shape of your twenties even when you are in your forties. What’s expected of a 20-year-old is expected of a 40-year-old”.

Bipasha Basu calls out “massively brutal” trolling

She further pointed out that women who don’t snap back into shape quickly after giving birth often face severe trolling. Calling the criticism “massively brutal,” Bipasha admitted she went through this herself after welcoming her daughter, Devi, describing it as “major, major trolling.”

Bipasha Basu recalls “bizarre pictures” taken by paparazzi

Bipasha also revealed that certain insensitive paparazzi captured “really bizarre pictures” of her during this phase. She noted that people rarely acknowledge the effort a woman puts in while adjusting to motherhood alongside managing her baby, personal life, and other pressures. “Nobody really cares. Everybody expects you to bounce back,” she said, pointing to the unrealistic expectations imposed on new mothers.
