Gurgaon: A 23-year-old man died after his motorcycle crashed into a cement block placed on an under-construction flyover near Sector 88A on Tuesday night.Shivansh Sharma, a resident of Palam Vihar Extension, was a second-year BCA student at DPG Degree College in Sector 34. He was returning home from his father’s dhaba around 10.50pm when the accident occurred. His elder brother, Sandeep Sharma, said the family runs the dhaba from rented premises near their house and Shivansh had gone there to help their father. “Shivansh left the dhaba around 10.50pm. He travelled on the same route every day. Before he could reach Dwarka Expressway, he crashed into one of the large cement blocks placed on the flyover. He was trying to pass through the gap between the blocks when his bike hit one of them in the dark,” Sandeep said.Sandeep said Shivansh was wearing a helmet but suffered a severe head injury when his head hit the cement block. He remained at the spot for several hours without being noticed. The family initially thought he had stayed back at the dhaba. Sandeep said he realised something was wrong when Shivansh was not home even around 5.30am. “I asked my father about him. He told us that Shivansh had left around 11pm. We panicked and started looking for him. Around 6am, I found him lying unconscious on the under-construction flyover with blood around him,” he said.Sandeep said the reflector tape on the cement block appeared to have been torn. “The damaged reflector tape may have made it difficult for him to spot the block,” he said. A relative said Shivansh might have survived had he received medical assistance sooner.Shivansh had been discharged from a hospital in April after treatment for a severe stomach infection. His family had described his recovery as a “second life”.Police from Sector 93 police post started inquest proceedings. The body was handed over to the family after an autopsy on Wednesday.
