Patna: Bihar Police is training 19,596 newly recruited constables as part of efforts to strengthen law and order and improve the police-public ratio in the state. The recruits are undergoing training at 46 centres and will be deployed in district police forces and other units after completing nine months of basic training next year.Bihar currently has a police force of around 1.21 lakh personnel. With the induction of the 19,596 constables, its strength will exceed 1.41 lakh, bringing the police-public ratio closer to the national average of 153 police personnel per one lakh population, police officials said on Friday.The recruitment process for another around 20,000 constables is also underway. The force is expected to cross 1.60 lakh personnel by the end of next year, further improving the police-public ratio.According to police headquarters, 16,656 constables are being trained for the district police force and 2,940 for Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP).DGP Vinay Kumar said 8,413 trainees were undergoing training at 30 district-level police training centres, while 5,715 were training at nine BSAP centres. Another 1,088 are being trained at BSAP-2 in Dehri (Rohtas), 1,025 at BSAP-12 in Supaul and 827 at MPTC in Dumraon (Buxar).Training is also being provided at CRPF centres in Chandauli, Mokamaghat and Siliguri, and SSB centres in Bagaha, Birpur, Bathnaha and Supaul.The nine-month programme covers physical training, drills, weapons handling, firing, riot control, first aid, law, traffic management, police communications and information technology. The DGP said the expanded force would help improve policing and strengthen crime control across Bihar.
