New Delhi: The Centre and the Bihar government have announced the establishment of a permanent campus for the National Skill Training Institute for Women (NSTI-W) in Patna and a Skill India International Centre (SIIC), in a move aimed at expanding women’s vocational training and creating pathways for international employment.
The announcements were made by Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education, and Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
The permanent campus of NSTI (Women), Patna, will be developed at Bihta at an investment of ₹99.97 crore, while the proposed Skill India International Centre will receive around ₹7 crore in central support.
The two initiatives are expected to strengthen Bihar’s skilling ecosystem by expanding access to industry-aligned training for women and equipping young people with language skills, certification support and international placement assistance for overseas employment.
According to the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the new NSTI campus will feature an administrative block, academic block and girls’ hostel, allowing the institute to expand its training capacity and introduce new-age vocational programmes.
The institute plans to offer 13 trades under the Craft Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) and Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS), including emerging disciplines such as Artificial Intelligence and Programming Assistant, Drone Technician, Solar Technician and Radiology Technician, with a proposed annual training capacity of 435 trainees.
The Skill India International Centre will focus on preparing candidates for overseas careers through foreign language training in English, German, Japanese and French, along with international certification guidance, pre-departure orientation, migration support and placement counselling. Training will also cover sectors witnessing global demand, including electrical services, plumbing, construction and agriculture.
Speaking on the occasion, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said the initiatives would strengthen the state’s skilling ecosystem by improving access to industry-aligned training for women while opening new employment opportunities for youth in domestic and international markets.
Jayant Chaudhary said the permanent campus and the international skilling centre would support the government’s vision of expanding opportunities for women and preparing India’s workforce for global employment through industry-relevant skills.
NSTI (Women), Patna, currently operates from a temporary campus and is the only Central government skill training institute exclusively for women in Bihar. The institute offers programmes under the Craft Instructor Training Scheme and Craftsmen Training Scheme and has previously conducted courses in electronics, fashion design, artificial intelligence and cosmetology.
The announcement comes as governments increasingly expand skilling infrastructure and international mobility initiatives to prepare workers for emerging sectors and overseas employment opportunities.
