Varanasi: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Varanasi Smart City have partnered to establish an app-based public bicycle and e-bike sharing network on the varsity campus.Once operational, users will be able to access GPS-enabled bicycles and e-bikes through a dedicated mobile application featuring a user-based payment system, allowing riders to pay for usage through the platform. The facility is expected to be rolled out by the end of August..As part of the project, high-footfall docking stations are being set up at strategic locations across the campus.The initial phase will see the deployment of e-bikes and conventional pedal bicycles. To ensure safety, all vehicles will be equipped with live GPS tracking integrated with the city’s Integrated Command and Control Centre.Vice-chancellor Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi said, “ We are happy to partner with Varanasi Smart City in introducing this innovative mobility solution. The initiative will make commuting within the campus more convenient while promoting sustainable transportation practices.”
