Varanasi: A 26-year-old junior doctor at the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), allegedly died by suicide in his hostel room late Sunday. The deceased, Dr Ritwik Kundu, was a resident of Hooghly district in West Bengal and was pursuing his junior residency in the department of anaesthesia.Police recovered a suicide note from his room which indicated that he was finding it tough to cope with the difficulties in life. The exact reason and circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation.Preliminary investigation suggests the doctor may have administered a drug to himself through an intravenous (IV) drip, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem examination.According to reports, the deceased had not reported for duty since Saturday afternoon, prompting his colleagues to search for him. When they reached his hostel room, they found it locked from the inside and alerted the hostel administration, which in turn informed police.Cops broke open the door and found Kundu lying on his bed with an IV drip attached to his hand. During a search of the room, they found the suicide note purportedly written by the victim, in which he had apologised to his parents for taking the extreme step, saying that life was much more difficult than it appeared from the outside. He wrote that no one should be held responsible for his death, particularly a young woman whom he described as someone who loved him deeply and had done a great deal for him.The university administration informed his family, which had reached Varanasi. SHO Rajkumar Sharma said further investigation was on.
