Bhilwara: BJP MP from Bhilwara Damodar Agrawal Friday urged the Centre to strengthen road safety measures on national highways, calling for fencing and divider barriers to prevent accidents caused by animals straying onto roads. Raising the issue under Rule 377 in Parliament, Agrawal said the absence of safety barricades along highways and median barriers on many stretches has led to frequent accidents, resulting in significant loss of life and property. He said the risk is particularly high in rural areas and near wildlife sanctuaries, where animals often cross highways unexpectedly. Besides endangering motorists, such accidents also threaten stray and wild animals. Agrawal said highway crashes impose a heavy burden on the govt through emergency response, healthcare and relief operations. He urged the Centre to ensure adequate safety infrastructure, including fencing and divider barriers, on national highways across the country to reduce accidents and improve protection for both commuters and wildlife.
