Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police has arrested a technical assistant at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai in connection with alleged irregularities in the BPSC assistant education development officer (AEDO) examination held in April.The accused, Roshan Kumar, was arrested from the BARC campus in Trombay on Tuesday, officials said on Wednesday. He was produced before a Mumbai court and taken on transit remand. He is expected to reach Patna on Wednesday.According to the EOU, Roshan had allegedly received the answer key of the question paper before the examination and circulated it among some candidates. A three-member special investigation team (SIT), headed by an ASP, was formed after his name surfaced during the probe. The team reached Mumbai on Aug 3 and arrested him.Roshan, a resident of Kakaria village under Noorsarai police station area in Nalanda, was posted at BARC and was undergoing training there. He was appointed in 2025.The AEDO examination was conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). One of the examination centres was PL Sahu High School in Sohsarai, Nalanda.EOU sources alleged that Roshan was present at the centre on the day of the examination and had allegedly posed as an employee of the company that had installed jammers. He was also allegedly wearing the company’s T-shirt to conceal his identity, sources said.During the first shift in Room No. 25 of the school, candidate Shweta Kumari of Kumhrar in Patna and two employees of the biometric services company, Chandan Kumar and Rahul Kumar, were intercepted by the invigilator.The EOU alleged that Roshan had given the answer key to Shweta’s husband, Kunal, who was outside the examination centre. Kunal allegedly handed it to Chandan and Rahul, who were then supposed to pass it on to Shweta, according to the agency’s investigation.Centre superintendent Jitendra Kumar informed the police, following which an FIR was registered at Sohsarai police station.Roshan is the second major accused arrested in the case. Earlier, the EOU arrested Brajesh Yadav, the city coordinator of the manpower agency that provided staff for the biometric system. Yadav is also a resident of Nalanda.The BPSC had conducted the AEDO examination in three phases — April 14-15, April 17-18 and April 20-21 — at 746 centres across 38 districts. Around 11 lakh candidates had enrolled for 935 posts. Following complaints of malpractice, the commission cancelled the entire examination.
