Nagpur: The Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat has urged the Besa Nagar Panchayat to cut down Conocarpus trees planted in the area, stating that the species has been banned in Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh and poses health risks.The trees planted near the Swami Samarth Temple in Besa have now grown significantly. Residents claim the species is hazardous to health. They said that despite several complaints, citizens allege there has been little response from the administration.Conocarpus is an African origin fast-growing, evergreen species that has been banned in several states due to environmental and health concerns. The tree absorbs large quantities of groundwater, and its pollen is known to trigger allergies.
