Nagpur: Besa Nagar Panchayat has launched a dedicated call centre to help residents complete SIR verification process and eliminate confusion regarding their designated Booth Level Officers (BLOs).Public Works Committee chairman Mukesh Kale said the initiative was introduced after Panchayat received numerous complaints from residents who were unsure about which BLO they needed to contact. Operational for nearly a week, the call centre is contacting citizens, informing them about their assigned BLO and guiding them through the SIR process.Kale said a recent door-to-door survey revealed that multiple polling booths often fall within a single ward, leading to confusion. “Each ward has several booths. For example, Ward 1 has seven booths, meaning there are seven BLOs. Members of the same family may even be linked to different booths, resulting in multiple BLOs visiting the same house,” he said.Using data collected during the survey, including residents’ addresses and contact numbers, officials are calling households to provide the name and contact details of their respective BLOs, ensuring the enumeration process is completed smoothly.The survey also uncovered discrepancies in the electoral rolls. While Ward 1 had over 3,000 voters during previous Nagar Panchayat elections, the survey found only around 1,900 residents currently living there. According to Kale, many voters have shifted elsewhere but continue to remain on the rolls.He said the SIR exercise will help remove such discrepancies and ensure the electoral rolls accurately reflect eligible residents.
