Bengaluru: A special NIA court Saturday sentenced Syed Fasiur Rehaman, a key figure in the Al-Hind ISIS terror conspiracy case, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 48,000.The case, linked to the proscribed ISIS terrorist organisation, was initially registered by Suddaguntepalya police in Bengaluru on Jan 10, 2020, under various sections of IPC and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). NIA later took over the investigation and re-registered the case on Jan 23, 2020.So far, NIA has filed three chargesheets against 20 accused. Earlier, another accused, Haneef Khan, was convicted on July 14 this year after pleading guilty during the trial, which commenced in Oct 2025.According to the NIA investigation, the conspiracy was masterminded by prime accused Mehaboob Pasha, who reportedly conducted meetings at his residence in Gurappanapalya near BTM Layout by radicalising and recruiting other accused to carry out terror activities and join ISIS in Syria and Afghanistan. Investigators said the group planned targeted killings to trigger communal riots and advance the agenda of ISIS. Pasha is associated with Khaja Moideen alias Jalal and others involved in the murder of a Hindu leader in Tamil Nadu.Rehaman was found to have participated in the conspiracy meetings and purchased tents and knives for jungle camp training of members of the Al-Hind group. The alleged objective was to establish an ISIS/Daesh province.NIA said its investigation is continuing, with efforts underway to trace an online handler suspected of planning and coordinating the formation of the terror module.
