Bengaluru: A Lokayukta team Tuesday, during an inspection of Sankey Tank, pulled up officials over the lack of regular monitoring and coordination between Bengaluru West City Corporation (BWCC) and Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).Upa Lokayukta Justice KN Phaneendra had issued notices to officials in charge of the lake in July after taking suo motu cognisance of citizen protests over several issues affecting Sankey Tank.Lokayukta chief engineer BV Ramesh inspected the lake along with members of Voice of Sadashivanagar. He noted that the lake was not receiving adequate water through its 11 inlets and directed BWCC engineers to install information boards displaying the water level. Ramesh told TOI that he would soon submit a report to Lokayukta on the status of the lake.Residents alleged that years of concretisation had worsened the lake’s condition and that two concentric concrete walking tracks had reduced water flow into it. “Even when there is adequate rain, water flows away on the roads instead of entering the lake. The inlets should be fixed and the stormwater drains feeding the lake should be desilted,” said BK Shivaram, retired ACP and president of Kadu Malleshwara Geleyara Balaga.Shilpa Jatti of Voice of Sadashivanagar said, “Hundreds of crores have been spent on rejuvenation, but apart from concretisation, no other development has taken place.”
