Kolkata: From Stuttgart to Warsaw and Luxembourg, the spirit of Durga Puja is transcending borders as the global Bengali diaspora prepares to welcome the goddess with vibrant community celebrations, traditional rituals and a deep longing for home.A small Bengali community in Germany’s southwest, in Stuttgart, will worship the goddess at the Stuttgart Durgabari, a social and cultural organisation that is ready to welcome the diaspora from across Germany. The organisers will be serving free traditional Bengali cuisine to visitors. There will be no entry fee, unlike other pujas in the region, said Ujjal Raha, one of the organisers.“Our goal is to provide an opportunity to the diaspora to take part in the festival, which they would miss otherwise. Also, this is an opportunity to connect with our culture and heritage and promote it here in Germany,” said Raha.In Poland’s Warsaw, the sound of the dhak will fill the air once again. Nine years ago, a small group of Bengali families came together with a simple dream—to bring the spirit of Durga Puja to Poland. With no established traditions to follow, they built something truly special through faith, dedication and community spirit.Over the years, Bengalis from across Poland have found a home in this celebration. What began as a humble initiative has grown into a vibrant gathering where traditions are cherished, friendships flourish, and cultures come together. In another corner of Europe, LuxUtsav, the Bengali community’s Luxembourg Durgotsav Association, is ready to hold its eighth Durga Puja over the next five days at the Salle um Duerf in Itzig, with daily rituals, cultural programmes and food. Entry is free and open to all. The organisers have urged visitors to register online for their own reference and said all are welcome to walk in at any time for darshan.LuxUtsav’s 2026 schedule includes opening rites on Friday, Oct 16, from 6 pm (Ghot Sthapon, after the set-up from 5.30 pm), morning rituals from Saturday to Tuesday with the Ashtami pushpanjali on Sunday, Oct 18, at 11.15 am, evening arati at 7.45 pm from Friday to Monday, and farewell rites (Maa er Biday) ending at 2 pm on Tuesday, Oct 20.For Bengalis, Durga Puja is where emotion, culture, community, artistry and devotion meet. That spirit inspired eight doctors in London to found Bengal Cultural & Social Club 27 years ago to celebrate Pujo as it is in Bengal. Today, 15 active members and their families carry that legacy forward. At BCSC, tradition is at the heart of everything. Puja is held as per the Panjika, with rituals performed according to the nirghonto. Bhog is strictly vegetarian, without onion or garlic, and served free to all. With 2,000+ visitors, our Pujo welcomes Bengalis and non-Bengalis alike, across communities and faiths. The cultural programme will celebrate Bengal and India through music, dance and theatre with tributes to Rabindranath Tagore and Nazrul. The Houston Durgabari Society in Texas, US, is hosting its Durga Puja 2026 celebrations at the Houston Durga Bari Society Temple. For one of the most popular Durga Pujas in America, the organisers have this year released a theme song that talks about the passion, community togetherness, building our home away from home and celebrating puja half way across the world.
