NEW DELHI: Police personnel injured in the stone-pelting incidents at Connaught Place on Wednesday night have recounted the sequence of events to the Delhi Police‘s top brass, describing how they were targeted and assaulted by an enraged mob while carrying out their official duties.Special commissioner of police (Law and Order) Devesh Srivastava, accompanied by other senior officers, visited Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital on Thursday to meet the injured personnel and enquire about their condition. During the visit, cops briefed the senior leadership about the circumstances under which they were attacked and the injuries they sustained.Several videos of the violence have also surfaced on social media. In one of the clips, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Vivek Bhagat, who was subjected to a brutal assault, is seen being rescued by fellow police personnel. Another video purportedly shows a policeman being chased by a group of people before being beaten with batons.Among the injured was inspector Nand Kishore Singh, who recounted the attack in detail. He said he was reporting for his night duty and had parked his vehicle before proceeding on foot towards his deployment point near Jantar Mantar.“As I crossed a hotel, I noticed a large crowd gathered there. Suddenly, the crowd turned violent. They were carrying sticks, stones and batons in their hands. The moment they saw me in uniform, they launched an attack,” Singh said.According to the inspector, members of the mob were shouting, “Beat the policemen,” while assaulting him. “They attacked me with sticks, stones and whatever objects they had in their hands,” he said.Singh further alleged that during the assault, his gold chain and wallet were snatched. He sustained injuries before fellow police personnel managed to rescue him from the mob.
