Hyderabad: Govt advisor V Hanumantha Rao on Tuesday said he would launch an indefinite hunger strike from May 9, protesting the Centre’s stance on the Backward Classes (BCs) caste census. Addressing the media at Gandhi Bhavan, he stated that the agitation would continue until the Centre provides a clear assurance on conducting a caste census for the BCs.He demanded that clarity be provided by May 8, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Telangana on May 10. Questioning the Centre, Hanumantha Rao asked why Modi, who identifies himself as belonging to the BC community, was not supporting the demand. He also credited senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for backing the caste census initiative in Telangana. He further alleged that rising prices under the Modi-led govt have caused hardship for the people.
