Jaisalmer: The body of a Rajasthan Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) from Barmer district, who died of a heart attack during a physical efficiency test for promotion to Sub-Inspector (SI) in Jodhpur Friday, was brought to Barmer Saturday. Police officers and personnel, including SP Chunaram Jat, paid floral tributes to the deceased at the police lines before his last rites were performed with full police honours.The deceased, identified as Durga Ram Bhil (50), was with the Barmer Police. He had reached the Rajasthan Police Training Centre (RPTC) at Mandore, Jodhpur Friday morning to appear for the physical efficiency test.According to information, Durga Ram had successfully completed the two-kilometre run and was scheduled to participate in the remaining stages of the physical test. However, around 8.30 am, he complained of chest pain and his condition deteriorated.He was rushed to the nearby Chandra Mangal Hospital, where doctors attempted to revive him through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). However, he could not be saved.His post-mortem was conducted in Jodhpur, after which his body was brought to Barmer on Saturday.Meanwhile, the death has left Durga Ram’s family devastated as this was the third death in the family in recent times. His father and elder brother had also passed away earlier.According to his family, Durga Ram’s father, Bhalaram, who was the village sarpanch, died about a year ago. Three to four months later, his elder brother, Phota Ram, also passed away. Durga Ram is survived by five children and a younger brother who works as a farmer.
