Mandya: The menace of petty rowdyism has resurfaced in Mandya city, with a gang allegedly assaulting a bar cashier after being refused liquor at a discounted price. The incident took place late on Tuesday night, at a bar and restaurant near Factory Circle in Mandya and was captured on the CCTV cameras.According to police, a group of youths arrived at the bar around 11.20pm to buy alcohol. They allegedly demanded that liquor be sold to them at a discounted price. When the cashier, AR Gurudath said it could not be done, an argument broke out, police said.The accused allegedly attacked Gurudath with a beer bottle before repeatedly assaulting him. Hemanth, 26, who intervened in an attempt to stop the assault, was also attacked by the group. He however, escaped with minor injuries.The assailants reportedly used the beer bottles they had purchased during the attack, creating panic among the staff and customers. The entire incident was recorded on the CCTV cameras, providing crucial evidence for the investigation. Mandya East police registered an FIR against seven accused, including Manu, Mohan Raj, Sanjay and Giri, on charges related to assault and unlawful activities. Police are on the look out for the accused.SP VJ Shobharani said, “Though the incident was reported on June 30, at around 11.20 pm, the victims came forward to lodge a complaint on July 1. Based on the complaint, we have registered an FIR and formed a special team to arrest those involved in the crime.Youths accused of stealing borewell, pumpset cables, caughtThree youths accused of stealing borewell and pumpset cables from agricultural fields were caught by villagers at Upparakanahalli in Mandya taluk on Wednesday. The suspects were later and taken into police custody. According to locals, a series of cable thefts were reported in recent weeks in the agricultural areas of Upparakanahalli, Tangalagere and Dyapasandra villages, causing financial losses to farmers.Keeping a close eye on suspicious movements, villagers reportedly intercepted the three youths while they were attempting to flee with stolen borewell and pump set cables. Enraged over the recurring thefts, villagers allegedly tied them to a pole and assaulted them before alerting police. The residents demanded strict action against the accused, for targeting farmers’ irrigation equipment. A case was registered, and an investigation is underway to ascertain their involvement in the cable thefts reported from surrounding villages as well.
