Prayagraj: Ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi on Monday, idols of Lord Ganesha started arriving at puja pandals across Prayagraj on Friday, marking the beginning of preparations for the 10-day Ganeshotsav celebrations.While several puja committees installed idols at their elaborately decorated pandals, families also brought home smaller idols in anticipation of the festival. The idols will now undergo decoration and consecration rituals before devotees formally commence worship.This year’s Ganeshotsav will begin on Sept 14 and conclude with the immersion of idols on Anant Chaturdashi, Sept 25.One of the prominent attractions is at Karelabagh Colony, where the Shri Ganapati Ji Sada Seva Foundation has brought a distinctive idol for its 26th annual celebrations. The idol features a Lord Jagannath-inspired face, painted black and adorned with large circular eyes.“We brought the idol today. Its shringaar will be completed over the next two days, after which the 10-day festivities will commence on Monday. This marks the 26th year of our celebrations and we are eager to welcome devotees,” said Akhilesh Sahay, president of the foundation.The arrival of idols has intensified activity at pandals across the city, with organisers busy finalising decorations, lighting and other arrangements. Ganesh Puja celebrations are traditionally held in localities including Alopibagh, Kydganj, Muttiganj, Rambagh, New Cantt, Lukerganj and Preetam Nagar.Meanwhile, devotees have begun gathering flowers, modaks, coconuts and other puja items as preparations gather pace for welcoming Lord Ganesha.
