T’puram: State human rights commission (SHRC) chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas declared that the action taken by Vithura Service Cooperative Bank was incorrect. It violated the Supreme Court and high court rulings that banks should not withhold or transfer the pension and other benefits of employees who retired from service. This action followed a complaint submitted by a retired KSRTC driver. The complaint stated that the cooperative bank withheld his meagre monthly pension because he stood as a guarantor for someone who failed to repay their debt. Justice Thomas mentioned that if the complaint was valid, the request to return the withheld amount was justified. TNN
