Vadodara: A bank manager was duped out of Rs 12 lakh by cybercriminals who lured him into a bogus investment scheme using a fake video purportedly featuring the Union finance minister and promises of high returns.Rakshesh Buch, a resident of Sun Pharma Road, filed a cheating complaint with Cyber Crime police station. According to the complaint, Buch came across a video in Feb that claimed investors could earn handsome returns through a scheme called Quantum AI.On clicking on a link attached to the video, he was directed to a website where he registered by providing his personal details, including his name, address and phone number. He was subsequently contacted by the fraudsters, who explained the investment scheme and persuaded him to invest Rs 25,000 initially.They later induced him to invest in a crude oil-related scheme, claiming oil prices would rise because of the ongoing war. Buch alleged they also posed as a Saudi royal to convince him to invest larger sums.He invested money through a mobile application provided by the fraudsters. When he attempted to make withdrawals, he was asked to pay more money.Police said Buch transferred more than Rs 12 lakh before realising that he had fallen victim to a cyberfraud. An investigation has been initiated.
