Shivamogga: Shivamogga district administration has imposed a series of restrictions for the upcoming Ganesha festival and immersion processions to ensure peace, harmony and safety across the district.DC and district magistrate Prabhuling Kavalikatti issued the order under sections 35 and 36 of the Karnataka Police Act, 1963, following recommendations from SP. The order imposes a 30-day ban from Sept 14 to Oct 13 on DJ music systems, colour paper blasting, fireworks and bike rallies. The measures aim to curb noise pollution and prevent disruptions affecting students, senior citizens and hospital patients.Taking note of a past tragedy in Hadonahalli village in which 12 people drowned after a coracle (teppa) capsized, the administration has also enforced stringent safety norms for idol immersions using coracles in rivers, lakes and backwaters.Under the rules, only two to three people are allowed in each coracle, life jackets are mandatory for everyone on board, and immersions must be carried out under the direct supervision of expert swimmers.Authorities appealed to the public to follow the guidelines strictly to ensure a peaceful, safe, and harmonious festival.
