Balasore: A physical education teacher died after coming in contact with an 11-KV overhead power line while preparations were underway for Independence Day celebrations at a private school in Maitapur on Saturday morning. Two students were also injured in the incident.The deceased was identified as Priyabrata Behera (32). He is survived by his wife and by two children. He was reportedly a resident of Jaleswar area.According to information, the incident occurred around 8 am when preparations were being made for the Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony. Barik was reportedly carrying an iron pipe to install a flagpole when it came in contact with an overhead wire, resulting in an electric shock.Barik sustained critical injuries and was taken to Bhadrak district headquarters hospital, where doctors declared him dead.Two students who were also injured were admitted to Simulia community health centre. They were reportedly discharged after their condition improved.Simulia tehsildar Saumya Ranjan Mahapatra, additional tehsildar Nityananda Sethi and Simulia police station IIC Debaraj Jena reached the school and began an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the accident.District education officer Basanta Kumar Nayak said an inquiry has been ordered into the incident. “Action will be taken after the inquiry report is received,” Nayak said.
