Madikeri: A ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat–Swasth Bharat’ (drug-free India–healthy India) awareness drive, along with the organ donation campaign, will be held in Madikeri on Feb 7.The drive is hosted by the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in collaboration with the Kodagu district administration, Rajiv Gandhi University of health sciences, Kodagu ZP, district health and family welfare department, police department, narcotics control bureau, and Disha Bhod foundation.
KIMS director Dr AJ Lokesh told reporters that the awareness rally will begin at 7am from Gandhi Maidan and reach General KS Thimmaiah district stadium via Mangerira Muttanna Circle, General Thimmaiah circle, and Ajjamada B Devaiah circle. A street play is organised to highlight the message of a drug-free India.Organ donationResident medical officer Dr Dhananjaya said an awareness campaign on organ donation will also be launched. Medical superintendent Dr Somasekhar noted that organ donation should be voluntary and can help save another person’s life. District health and family welfare officer Dr Satish Kumar said several awareness programmes are organised at school and colleges up to Feb 15. Ganja seizedMeanwhile, Kodagu police arrested four people for selling and using banned drug ganja in Madapur under the Somwarpet jurisdiction. As much as 753g of ganja was seized, and they were produced before a local court, police said. The drive was conducted under the guidance of SP Bindu Mani and Somwarpet DSP Chandrasekhar. In another incident, police arrested an accused from Shantpur village near Kodlipet, and seized 850g of ganja and a car.
