‘Avengers Endgame: Encore’ has made a strong start at the Indian box office. The film that is a re-release of the 2019 blockbuster ‘Avengers: Endgame’, has according to early estimates, scored a good opening at the box office.

According to sacnilk, the film has earned an estimated Rs 7.25 crore nett on its opening day. The Marvel blockbuster, which returned to cinemas nationwide seven years after its original release, recorded the collection across 3,635 shows, taking its total India gross to an estimated Rs 8.68 crore.The original English version of the film accounted for the bulk of the opening-day business, earning an estimated Rs 5.25 crore. The Hindi version followed with around Rs 1.25 crore, while the Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions contributed approximately Rs 30 lakh and Rs 45 lakh, respectively.The film recorded an overall occupancy of 24.52% on Friday, with the night shows witnessing the highest footfalls.
‘Avengers Endgame: Encore’ opens ahead of early estimates
The opening-day business is broadly in line with early box office projections, which had estimated that the re-release could earn around Rs 6 crore on its first day. The film had also recorded advance bookings worth approximately Rs 17 crore.Considering that ‘Endgame: Encore’ is a re-release, its opening has given the film a considerable head start. With the weekend ahead and the buzz around the Avengers franchise continuing to build, the film could emerge as one of the biggest re-releases in India.With its Day 1 business crossing the Rs 7 crore net mark, ‘Endgame: Encore’ has already registered one of the top five openings for a re-release in India. It is also the only Hollywood title currently in the top bracket, behind the re-release of ‘Baahubali: The Epic’, which opened to an estimated Rs 19 crore. The film will now look to challenge the existing top re-release performers, including ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ (Rs 41 crore), ‘Tumbbad’ (Rs 40 crore), ‘Ghilli’ (Rs 26.25 crore) and ‘Sholay’ (Rs 11 crore).
‘Avengers: Endgame’ crosses USD 2.8 billion globally
On the global front, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ has finally crossed the $2.8 billion mark at the worldwide box office, seven years after its original release.As per the Hollywood reporter, the re-release earned USD 3.8 million from Thursday previews, with the studio projecting that its return could gross around USD 25 million domestically and another USD 25 million-USD 30 million from international markets.During its original theatrical run in April 2019, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ opened to a record-setting USD 1.2 billion globally in its first weekend. The film went on to become one of the highest-grossing movies of all time, eventually accumulating around USD 2.7 billion worldwide during its initial run.
Can ‘Avengers’ break ‘Avatar’ record?
The film is still USD 100 million away from hitting the USD 2.9 billion mark, to officially dethrone ‘Avatar’ as the highest-grossing film of all time (with re-releases).The Encore re-release also includes an exclusive look at Marvel Studios’ upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which is scheduled to hit theatres on December 18.
