Ahmedabad: Amid concerns over a possible shortage of LPG cylinders across the country, the PM Poshan Commission issued a circular to ensure that the supply of cooking gas for the PM Poshan Scheme remains uninterrupted. Under this scheme, meals are provided to students from Balvatika to Class 8 in govt and aided schools across the state. Authorities were instructed to take precautionary measures so that students continued to receive meals without disruption. The circular was addressed to all district collectors and municipal commissioners, directing them to guide LPG distribution agencies to maintain a steady supply of cylinders to midday meal centres. The state govt emphasized that there should be no delay in providing LPG cylinders used for preparing meals under the scheme.According to the circular, the PM Poshan Scheme is implemented under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) 2013 and aims to provide nutritious meals to students from Balvatika to Class 8. As LPG cylinders are regularly used for cooking meals at these centres, any disruption in gas supply could directly affect the implementation of the scheme. The advisory was also issued in light of the current international situation, in which tensions involving Iran raised concerns about potential disruptions to global oil and gas supplies. In view of such uncertainties, the govt is taking precautionary steps to avoid any impact on the meal programme.Officials were instructed to coordinate closely with LPG distribution agencies and give priority to PM Poshan centres while supplying cylinders. District collectors were also asked to hold review meetings with gas agencies to monitor the supply and resolve any issues immediately.
