Gandhinagar: The Election Commission of India (ECI) approved the appointment of Sandip Sagale (IAS, 2007), director general, Sports Authority of Gujarat, Gandhinagar, as the new chief electoral officer for Gujarat, and ex officio principal secretary to govt, general administration department (election), replacing Hareet Shukla (IAS, 1999).Sagale also served as the industries commissioner and Ahmedabad collector in the past. The upcoming 2027 assembly elections are expected to be conducted under Sagale.Shukla was appointed to the current position in July 2024. Coimbatore: A 4-year-old boy was killed in a wild elephant attack in Mavadappu tribal settlement in Udumelpet forest range in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve on Saturday evening.The deceased has been identified as T Varun, 4, son of Thiruman, a farmer in the Mavadappu tribal settlement.
