Mumbai: The transport department’s crackdown on auto and taxi drivers lacking basic Marathi proficiency continued for the second consecutive day across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), with 722 of the 3,942 drivers inspected failing the test and being issued one-month show-cause notices. The failure rate stood at 18%.Across the rest of Maharashtra, RTO squads checked 5,211 drivers and found 777 unable to communicate in basic Marathi, resulting in notices being issued. New Delhi: Delhi govt is set to let private universities develop multi-storey “vertical campuses”, doing away with the need for procuring large tracts of land traditionally required to set up higher education institutes.The move, proposed under Delhi Private Universities Bill, 2026, is aimed at enabling universities to establish classrooms, laboratories, libraries and other facilities in high-rise buildings, particularly in land-constrained parts of the capital. Bengaluru: A 53-year-old farmer travelling with his family on a KSRTC bus from Devanahalli to Andhra Pradesh’s Gorantla lost over Rs 1.9 lakh from his bank account after his mobile phone went missing during the journey.K Srinivasa Reddy, a resident of Seegehalli, told police he was travelling on Aug 11 when he realised his phone had gone missing.
