New Delhi: Researchers have developed a tool that can estimates a cell’s biological age by analysing its gene activity and determining which genes are active or inactive.The tool, named ‘Pasta’ and described in a paper in the journal Advanced Science, can also identify substances that influence cellular ageing and distinguish between older, senescent cells, and more youthful, stem cell-like cells.Researchers from Sweden’s Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm University said while ageing is a major risk factor for many diseases, there is a lack of methods that can reliably measure how quickly cells age.Cells with high biological age often exhibited an increased…

An intensive 28-year eradication campaign has eliminated common carp from two major Tasmanian lakes, achieving what fisheries experts around the world once considered almost impossible in a large, open freshwater system. The Tasmanian Inland Fisheries Service (IFS) has officially declared European carp (Cyprinus carpio) functionally eradicated from Lake Sorell and Lake Crescent.
