Pune: The state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Pune, on Friday arrested a 37-year-old clerk from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s Sangvi property tax department while accepting a bribe of Rs1.20 lakh. An ACB officer said the accused, Umesh Kute of Chikhali, had demanded Rs1.50 lakh from a complainant to reduce his property tax liability from Rs91,000 to Rs50,000.“Kute later agreed to accept Rs1.20 lakh. We laid a trap in Sangvi on Friday afternoon and caught him while accepting the bribe,” the officer said. A case was registered against Kute at the Sangvi police station, the officer said. :Chandigarh: The Haryana govt extended loans to cooperative sugar mills despite poor recovery of dues, with Rs 5,673.26 crore outstanding against the mills at the end of 2024-25, according to Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG).The state govt disbursed another Rs 290 crore to the mills during 2024-25 but did not receive any repayment against the previous loans, showing inadequate efforts to recover the outstanding principal, says the audit report.The loans had been sanctioned with conditions that they would be repaid in five equal annual instalments along with interest at 8.5% per annum.
