Ahmedabad: Customs department has suspended four officials after passenger complaints that they took away their valuables at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Prayagraj: In the wake of an illegal firecracker unit blast that killed 14 people,Kaushambi police have seized 3,500 kg of packed firecrackers and 172 kg of raw material used in cracker manufacturing and arrested 17 people in a week as part of a crackdown on illegal firecracker manufacturing and storage. Berhampur: The fast-track Pocso court in Berhampur on Tuesday sentenced a 30-year-old mason to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 13-year-old girl after kidnapping her from a village in Ganjam district about six years ago.Judge Rohit Lal Panda also imposed a fine of Rs 70,000 on the convict. He will undergo an additional nine months in jail if he fails to pay the fine amount, said special public prosecutor Siba Prasad Mishra. Guwahati: Gauhati high court has directed Assam govt to pay Rs 2 lakh as interim compensation to the husband of Mumtaz Begum, who was pushed into Bangladesh after a foreigners’ tribunal declared her a foreigner in June.The court observed that Begum was expelled from India without her husband or any adult family member being informed about her detention.The tribunal declared Begum a foreigner on May 30 after reconsidering her case under an earlier HC order.
