Gorakhpur: The Uttar Pradesh govt is developing a large Kanha Upvan in Gorakhpur to strengthen management of stray cattle. The facility, coming up at Tal Nador along the Gorakhpur–Varanasi highway, will be the biggest cow shelter in the district and will be able to accommodate around 2,000 cattle at a time.At present, Gorakhpur has 34 functional cow shelters, including the Kanha Upvan at Mahewa under the municipal corporation, with a combined capacity of about 5,000 cattle. Kolkata: A court in Kolkata has sentenced Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) militant Jahidul Islam to eight years in prison after he confessed to plotting a jail break while being transferred from Kolkata sessions court to Presidency Jail.Chief judge Sukumar Roy of city sessions court held Islam guilty on Wednesday and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000, with an additional one year of imprisonment in default of payment. An Indian national was among four people killed in a family dispute-related shooting in Lawrenceville, Georgia, authorities said, in an incident that could have claimed more lives if not for the quick thinking of a 12-year-old child.
