Kolkata: About 60 residential high-rise and commercial buildings that have been constructed in the last three years in New Town have come under the scanner of the govt’s high level audit committee as the verification process of all G+5 high-rise buildings and commercial buildings starts.As per the SOP issued by the govt, all civic corporations and urban local bodies under whose jurisdiction the audit of high-rise buildings will be conducted have been asked to first list out the cases where sanction of building plans have been given in last 3 years. Priority will be given to under-construction buildings like institutional (hospital and nursing home), educational, IT buildings and assembly buildings where the congregation of public is large.Officials said several large commercial projects were under construction in New Town. “Äs per estimates, there are about 55 to 60 hig-hrises (G+5 and above), mostly commercial, that received building plan sanction in New Town in past three years and where construction work is underway,” an official said.Earlier, there were plaints of using a residential building for commercial purposes with gross violations. The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has been conducting an ongoing internal assessment of nearly 1,000 buildings in New Town for suspected violation of land-use norms. The buildings were identified for suspectedly using more than 40% space permissible for commercial use or operating without valid permission.
