AU VC Prof Sangita Srivastava chaired a meeting of wardens and superintendents of all hostels

Prayagraj: Allahabad University vice-chancellor Prof Sangita Srivastava announced competitions for the best hostel garden and overall cleanliness and upkeep and directed the wardens and superintendents of all the hostels to ensure better cleanliness, maintenance and basic facilities for students.Chairing a meeting on Monday which was attended by the Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW), wardens and superintendents of all hostels, the VC said repair and maintenance work at four hostels had already been completed. She directed officials to start repair work at G N Jha Hostel soon and ordered repairs to the boundary wall of Diamond Jubilee Hostel.The VC announced that all hostels would be assessed under two competitions after a month. One will focus on quality and upkeep of hostel gardens, while the other will assess cleanliness and overall maintenance. Inspection teams will visit the hostels after a month and the winning hostels will receive special prizes from the VC on Oct 2.The VC also announced that a cleanliness drive would be conducted across the campus and all hostels for the next one month. She directed officials to ensure regular cleaning of hostel premises and said toilets and bathrooms must be kept clean and repaired wherever required.She further instructed that there should be at least one RO water purifier on every floor of each hostel to ensure access to clean drinking water for students. Fans and lights in all hostels should be checked and repaired, she directed.Emphasising the importance of internet connectivity for academic work, the VC directed officials to immediately provide Wi-Fi facilities in hostels where the service is currently unavailable. Uninterrupted internet access has become a basic requirement for students, she said.The VC stressed that many students residing in the university’s hostels come from distant places and should be provided adequate facilities to ensure their academic work continues without disruption.
