T’puram: Attingal municipality is set to introduce a token system at govt veterinary hospital in a bid to streamline services and improve access to quality healthcare for pets. The initiative is being implemented as part of the municipality’s pet population management programme.The token system is being introduced to avoid overcrowding at the hospital, which currently attends around 100 pets every day. Authorities said the move would help ensure orderly consultations and reduce waiting time for pet owners.As part of the initiative, the services of mobile veterinary surgery unit of animal husbandry department will be made available at Govt Veterinary Hospital, Attingal, every Monday. The unit, launched by the department to provide surgical care for pets closer to their homes, offers facilities for various procedures, including sterilization surgeries.Earlier, many such services were largely available only at district-level veterinary hospitals. With the mobile surgery unit being stationed in Attingal on designated days, pet owners in the municipality and nearby areas will be able to access specialized veterinary care without travelling long distances.Municipality chairperson M Pradeep said the initiative would significantly improve veterinary services in the town.“The token system is being introduced to ensure better services for pet owners and to improve the overall efficiency of the hospital,” he said.Pradeep said the municipality would ensure the availability of necessary infrastructure and manpower for the smooth functioning of the expanded services.“Facilities such as an operation theatre, doctors and adequate staff members will be made available to ensure that the surgical unit functions effectively and pet owners receive quality treatment, including surgeries, at the hospital,” he added.Officials said govt-prescribed fees would be applicable for surgeries and other treatments provided through mobile veterinary surgery unit.
