CHENNAI: Chief minister M K Stalin on Sunday accused divisive forces of attempting to distort Vallalar’s humanitarian philosophy and said the state would firmly uphold the saint-reformer’s message of equality and compassion through governance. Delivering his address after inaugurating the international Vallalar conference organised by the HR&CE department in Chennai, Stalin said efforts to impose “different colours on Tamil society’s cultural identity” would not succeed.Stalin said Vallalar’s teachings against caste discrimination and social divisions formed the ideological foundation of the Dravidian movement and the welfare-oriented Dravidian model govt. He said schemes addressing hunger and poverty reflected Vallalar’s principle of compassion for all living beings.The chief minister also announced seven new initiatives to commemorate Vallalar and expand awareness of his teachings across Tamil Nadu and among younger generations.
