Ludhiana: An attempted ATM loot in Mansura village under the Jodhan police station limits was foiled late Sunday night after the machine alarm went off, forcing the masked assailants to beat a hasty retreat. Police said the miscreants arrived in a car and tried to break open the ATM vault using an iron rod and gas cutter.According to police sources, the accused entered the ATM kiosk late at night and began attempting to force the vault door open. However, they failed to carry out the robbery as the alarm system was triggered while they were trying to break in.Bank official Tehil Singh lodged a complaint with police regarding the incident. Acting on his complaint, police registered a case against unidentified persons and launched an investigation.ASI Kabal Singh of Jodhan police station said the complainant informed the police that a few masked men had entered the kiosk and attempted to break the vault using an iron rod. He added that the bank’s e-surveillance team alerted officials through a phone call about the attempted theft. Following the alert, bank staff reached the ATM site and inspected the spot. During the inspection, it was found that one of the accused had also tried to cut the ATM lock with a gas cutter.Police said the suspects came in a car and fled in the same vehicle after the alarm started ringing. The timely alarm prevented major damage to the machine.CCTV footage from cameras installed in the area is being examined to identify the accused. DSP Dakha Varinder Singh Khosa said the suspects would be identified and arrested soon. Further investigation is underway.
