Nagpur: Vidarbha continued to reel under intense heat on Saturday, with Akola emerging as the hottest place in India once again. According to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Akola recorded a maximum temperature of 40.8°C, nearly 4.8°C above normal.Other districts in Vidarbha also recorded unusually high temperatures, making them the hottest locations in the state. Amravati recorded 40.6°C, Wardha touched 40°C, while Washim registered 39.2°C.The IMD said heat wave conditions prevailed in some pockets of Akola, Amravati and Wardha districts on Saturday, as temperatures remained significantly above seasonal averages across the region.In view of the rising temperatures, the weather dept issued a yellow alert for heat wave conditions for March 8, warning that heat wave conditions were very likely to occur in some pockets of Akola, Amravati and Wardha districts.Several other districts of Vidarbha, including Chandrapur, Nagpur and Yavatmal, also reported temperatures well above normal.Authorities advised residents to avoid direct sun exposure during afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and take precautions as heat wave conditions were expected to persist over parts of the region.
