Shivakumar, who is also the Congress senior observer for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections said that Assam is bracing for change and wants to put an end to Hitler rule.
He said those posting anything on social media are threatened. “Last 15 days I met a lot of Assamese youths staying in Karnataka and wanted to know their feelings. One day I went to a Coffee house where a lot of people from Assam were working there. I wanted to know their problems. Their tears were rolling while telling of their difficulty. I wanted to post them, but on social media they asked me not to, because tomorrow there might be a threat to our life. They said they have come here for education, jobs and to feel safe in the state and Bengaluru.”
Shivakumar, “I could not understand what was going on. There will be change and desire of people of Assam. Congress strength is the party’s strength.”
He said, “I want to ask my old former friend who joined BJP and became a poster boy of BJP. His name was there in a major scam. Amit Shah must reply to this. Where did he take the holy dip in River Ganga or River Brahmaputra. Whoever jobs BJP becomes clean. The answer must come from BJP.”
He added, “They are trying to pick a few congress leaders. If BJP was that strong what was the necessity of picking up a parliamentarian and a PCC member. You should rely on yourself, you have done work, you have created leaders why not relying on those. This shows BJP is weak and it is not winning.”
The deputy chief minister said, “The chief minister said that 30 seats of Congress are decided by him. He is not loyal to own party. He is afraid that he is not coming to power again. He is just like Hitler.”He said that Himanta was part of Congress and minister, today whatever he is because of Congress. “Today several BJP leaders want to quit BJP.”
Shivakumar, who also serves as the Karnataka Congress president, is visiting Assam to oversee campaign strategy and organisational efforts.
He further alleged internal discord within the BJP following recent developments, claiming dissatisfaction among party members. “Internal conflicts within the BJP have come to the fore. No one in the party is happy. BJP members are dissatisfied as they feel they are not getting opportunities.
Stepping up his attack on the government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Shivakumar alleged widespread corruption and failure to address key public concerns.
“All ministers in Assam have looted the State. In the last 10 years, the common man has suffered. What they assured in the last decade on caste issues and matters related to land, nothing has been sorted out. After the announcement of the candidate list, there is a big fight within the BJP. None of them are happy. Bridge has collapsed but there is no accountability. No other state in the country has such a ministry where every minister is corrupt.”
He added, “Media is attacked. Burning the copies of a local newspaper. Youths are coming to South India from Assam in search of jobs as there are no jobs. For availing government schemes in Assam one has to come to the ruling party rally. ”
He questioned what happened to the chargesheet which BJP published against Himanta in 2014. ” Tea tribes are cheated. Wages are not given as per your manifesto.”
