Post election FIRs and complaints raining in Assam
Sujata Gurung Chowdhary mother of Kunki Chowdhury candidate of Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), has lodged complaint with the National Commission for Women against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging false, defamatory and misleading statements made against her during the election campaign.

Kunki contested from Guwahati Central, Sujata in her letter that stated that she is a private individual with no active role in politics and has been drawn into public controversy solely because of her daughter’s candidature in the Assam Assembly elections.
She alleged that during a public campaign, the Chief Minister accused her of hurting religious sentiments through social media activity, harbouring sympathies for Pakistan, supporting “anti-national” individuals, and publicly consuming beef.
Kunki had earlier filed a complaint at Panbazar Police Station alleging the circulation of defamatory deepfake videos aimed at tarnishing her image ahead of the assembly election.
She had alleged that the content falsely portrays her in a manner intended to damage her “character, reputation, dignity and electoral prospects”. “They have even gone to the extent of dragging the name of my mother into maliciously created fake videos, causing severe mental distress and tarnishing her reputation in society,” the complaint reads.
Choudhury, an alumna of the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies and University College London, is facing a bitter attack from Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging that Kunki’s mother eats beef and is “anti-national and anti-Sanatani”.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma earlier had stated, “Assam has Cattle preservation Act and public consumption of beef can lead to three years of jail term. I will also file an FIR against them.”
AJP had strongly condemned the harassment of its Central Guwahati constituency candidate Kunki Choudhury by the Assam Police and has lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer of Assam.
AJP President Lurinjyoti Gogoi and General Secretary Jagadish Bhuyan alleged that Choudhury, along with party workers and supporters in multiple constituencies, has been subjected to harassment by the police over the past few days. They termed the actions as politically motivated and an act of vendetta.
The party stated that such conduct is particularly unfortunate at a time when the Model Code of Conduct is in force and the police are under the control of the Election Commission. “Despite this, the police appear to be acting in favour of the ruling party,” the leaders alleged.
The AJP leaders said that as per election rules, a candidate has the right to enter polling stations. Therefore, accusations of violating the Model Code of Conduct by entering polling booths are baseless.
The party further alleged that similar harassment has taken place in other constituencies, including Khowang, where AJP candidates and workers were targeted through police action at the behest of the government.
AJP leaders said they have informed the Chief Electoral Officer about these incidents and demanded strict action against police personnel who are allegedly acting under political influence.
