Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who had a deep familial bond with Asha Bhosle, took to Twitter and wrote, “A deeply sad day for India, and for music lovers across the world. For us, Asha Tai was family. Today, words feel too small for the loss we feel. One moment the heart falls silent, and the next, it drifts through the countless melodies she gifted all of us. It feels as though time itself has paused. Yet through her eternal songs, she will remain timeless forever.”

Sonu Nigam shared a memory with Asha Bhosle from a few years ago on his Instagram account and wrote, “Curtain down on one of the Greatest ever crooners of all times. The last standing warrior of the Pioneering Era of Indian Film music, has called it Quits today and bid her Final Goodbye to us all. She lived a full life, destined for Extreme Vicissitudes and Challenges leading to Exceptional Greatness. She touched the lives of Billions over multiple decades through her music and effervescence. An artiste who inspired us all through her zeal for Riyaz till the end of her life.”

Speaking to news agency PTI in Kolkata, singer Usha Uthup said, “It’s the end of an era, an iconic era. She was such an amazingly versatile singer. It is unbelievable to speak about Asha ji in the past tense. Even though we didn’t meet or talk every day, whenever I was in Mumbai, I would pass by Prabhu Kunj and used to call Lata Mangeshkar earlier, and after her passing, I tried to get through to Asha ji. From my side, it has always been a relationship of admiration and awe. She was truly iconic, there has never been another singer as versatile as her. She was also fortunate to have received such a wide variety of songs. She has inspired generations of young singers who continue to sing her songs even today.”

Singer Shreya Ghoshal shared an emotional tribute to Asha Bhosle in the form of a message on Instagram. She said, “Today, we lost a voice that defined generations… a spirit that redefined music itself. Asha Bhosle ji wasn’t just legendary, she was limitless. I grew up listening to her, learning from her, being in awe of her effortless versatility… The way she could make every note feel alive, every emotion feel personal. From the most playful melodies to the deepest ghazals to her extraordinary virtuosity in her songs in Marathi, Bangla and innumerable languages, she did it all, like only she could. For so many of us, she wasn’t just an inspiration… she was a part of our musical soul. I feel incredibly blessed to have witnessed her greatness in my lifetime. Her voice will echo through time, through every artist she inspired, through every heart she touched. Rest in music, Asha tai. Your legacy will never fade.”

The singer’s mortal remains were brought to her Lower Parel (Worli) residence for public viewing, with final rites scheduled at 4 PM on Monday.

Telugu star Allu Arjun remembered the great singer and wrote, “Deeply saddened by the passing of Asha Bhosle garu. A voice that defined generations and will live on forever. Heartfelt condolences to her near and dear ones. Om Shanthi 🙏🏽”

Actor Athiya Shetty mistakenly posted a picture of a young Lata Mangeshkar in tribute to Asha Bhosle after her death. Social media users were quick to point out her error

Ram Gopal Varma, director of Rangeela, in which Asha sang one of her most popular chartbusters Rangeela Re, wrote, “Today, on the passing of my all time favourite singer, the legendary Asha Bhosle ji , I find myself reflecting deeply. In Rangeela , it’s Rahman who obviously composed the music , but it was Asha ji’s voice that infused it with an immortal soul and raw, youthful fire.”

Actor and former Union Minister Smriti Irani tweeted, “Deeply saddened at the news of the passing of Asha Bhosle Tai. A voice that defined generations, carried our emotions, and gave soul to Indian music, she will remain an irreplaceable part of Bharat’s cultural heritage. Her voice will continue to live in every home, every memory, and every heart that has ever loved music. My deepest condolences to her family and admirers across the world.”

Bolywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan tweeted a picture of himself with Asha and wrote, “It’s truly sad to learn about Asha Tai’s passing… her voice has been one of the pillars of Indian cinema and will continue to resonate world over for centuries to come. A talent that will outlive many, she always showered me with blessings and love and i will miss her. Rest in Peace Asha Tai… love you.”

Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle tweeted, “First Lata Mangeshkar. Now Asha Bhosle. Different styles, both touched by greatness. So many great songs, for me Umrao Jaan was the cherry on the top. The last survivor of the great era of Rafi, Kishore, Mukesh, Manna Dey, Talat, Geeta Dutt, Lata and Asha is gone and while we use the expression loosely, it is really the end of an era.”

Veteran actor Kamal Haasan shared memories of the late singer, including BTS photos from the time they sang together for Chachi 420. The actor wrote a message in Marathi, remembering his ‘sakhi’ (friend).

Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi tweeted, “Asha Bhosle ji’s voice has been a timeless companion to Indian cinema, carrying a spectrum of emotions across generations. I have always admired the effortless grace and versatility she brought to every song. Indian cinema has lost one of its most irreplaceable voices. My heartfelt condolences to her family. Om Shanti.”

Kajol wrote, “Ashatai was, is and will always be a legend .. as a singer , as a persona and as a human being .. loved everything about her.. from her love of life, food and sense of humour and off course her first love .. her singing! She always had a personality in the songs she sang and we as actors were always coming up short trying to give to camera what she could express in her voice . I remember going for one of her recordings for a song that never released . I was 19 and she was amazing! What she made out of that simple melody was like watching a film.. I told her then that if I could bring one tenth of what she gave the song I would be a great actor .. the only word that comes to mind to describe her is Magnificent . Now and forever! Kangana Ranaut took to her Instagram Stories and reacted to the demise of Asha Bhosle. “Oh no!! My favourite singer, end of an era. Om Shanti (folded emoticon).”

Union minister Nitin Gadkari said in an X post, “Just three months ago, I met her again. She seemed tired then, and now the news of her passing has reached me. Just as Lata Didi elevated India’s name on the global stage through music, Asha Tai achieved the same feat,” he said.

“Asha Tai sang in numerous languages. Her songs will continue to resonate in the hearts of Indian music lovers for years to come. Her demise has cast a pall of grief over the entire music world and all music enthusiasts in India. Her family has suffered a profound loss. I pray that God grants them the strength to bear this sorrow,” he said.

AR Rahman posted a picture with Asha Bhosle on Instagram and wrote in the caption, “She lives forever with her voice and aura ..What an artist.”

Sanjay Dutt posted pictures with her and wrote, “Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Asha ji. Her voice wasn’t just music, it was emotion, memory, and magic that will live on forever.

I had the honour of sharing a song with her and learning so much from her. An irreplaceable loss for Indian music. Rest in peace.”

The official X account of the President of India posted a statement. It read, “The passing of Asha Bhosle Ji has created a huge void in the world of music. Her legendary career as an iconic singer has defined an era of music in India. I have fond memories of having interacted with her personally. She led her life on her own terms as an artist and as an individual. With her melodious and timeless voice, she enriched Indian music for decades. Her music will live forever. Her demise is an irreparable loss to music lovers. I convey my heartfelt condolences to her family and countless admirers.”

The actor tweeted, “Like so many of us, I grew up listening to Asha ji. Her voice inspired me and awed me in equal measure. There was something magical about it, the way it could hold so many emotions at once with such ease. As an actor, I have always admired how effortlessly she could bring a song to life. Cricketer Yuvraj Singh took to X (formerly Twitter) to pay tribute to Asha Bhosle. “Grew up listening to Asha ji… didn’t matter the mood, there was always a song of hers that fit it perfectly. So many memories, so many emotions tied to that voice. It feels like a part of our growing up has gone silent today. Rest in peace Asha ji 🙏 My deepest condolences,” he wrote.

Hours after Asha Bhosle’s demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Deeply saddened by the passing of Asha Bhosle Ji, one of the most iconic and versatile voices India has ever known. Her extraordinary musical journey, spanning decades, enriched our cultural heritage and touched countless hearts across the world. Be it her soulful melodies or vibrant compositions, her voice carried timeless brilliance. I’ll always cherish the interactions I’ve had with her.
