Dadri/Kasni: Army jawan Ravi Prakash died of a heart attack during an exercise session at a promotion course in Bengaluru, with his eight-year-old son Dev lighting his funeral pyre at Kasni village in Dadri on Thursday.Ravi Prakash had been attending the course, whose final day was Tuesday. He was expected to be promoted to havaldar after completing it.His mortal remains were brought from PGI Rohtak to Kasni in an Army vehicle on Thursday morning. Hundreds of villagers and youths gathered in neighbouring Sanwad, around 8km away, with Tricolour-decorated motorcycles. They accompanied the vehicle to Kasni in a bike rally.Schoolchildren lined the route carrying the national flag.At the cremation ground, Dev performed the last rites. Ravi Prakash’s father, Shri Krishna Sangwan, and wife, Sunita, were inconsolable as villagers comforted them.Army personnel accorded Ravi Prakash a final salute with gunfire before the cremation.The jawan’s sudden death left his family and village in shock. His final journey drew a large gathering of residents, youths and schoolchildren who joined in paying their respects.
