Jamshedpur: Bomb disposal experts from the Army’s 23rd Infantry Division safely defused a mortar shell in West Singhbhum district on Friday. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Col Dharmendra Singh.The bomb disposal squad (BDS) used controlled-blast technology, detonating the explosive remotely from a distance of 150 metres. The explosion created a crater nearly 5-ft deep and sent a cloud of smoke and soil about 60 m into the air.During the explosion, a shrapnel reportedly struck the house of a resident, Ban Singh Hembram, located about 300 m from the blast site, damaging its asbestos roof. However, the police denied the claim. “No such incident occurred. The defusal operation was carried out safely,” said Manoharpur SDPO David Dhorey.
