Amritsar: Commissionerate Police Amritsar on Thursday claimed to have busted an illegal arms supply network with the arrest of three accused and the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, three magazines and 50 live cartridges from their possession.The arrested accused were identified as Gurmukh Singh (27), Parasdeep Singh (26) and Gurjant Singh (24).Commissioner of Police Harmanbir Singh Gill said preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were in contact with a foreign-based arms smuggler and were allegedly supplying illegal weapons to criminal elements in the region.Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police apprehended Gurmukh Singh and Parasdeep Singh and recovered two AK-47 rifles, three magazines and 50 live cartridges from them, Gill said.During interrogation, the two accused allegedly disclosed that the weapons had been procured through Gurjant Singh. Based on their statements, Gurjant was nominated in the case and subsequently arrested, the CP added.Police said further investigations are underway to trace the forward and backward linkages of the arms supply network and identify other persons involved in the racket.
