LUDHIANA: A 34-year-old son of Ludhiana’s popular food vendor was allegedly shot dead during a birthday party late Wednesday night following an alleged argument at the party.Rahul, who had gone to the party in his Scorpio, suffered bullet wounds and was rushed to DMC Hospital, where he died.DCP City, Alam Vijay Singh said that on Wednesday night, police received information that a firing incident had taken place in the area under the jurisdiction of Lalton Chowki, which falls under Sadar police station and a young man had been shot.He added that after receiving the information, Lalton police post police reached the spot and learnt that a birthday party celebration of 8-10 youths was underway, where an argument had broken out between some youths.Police officer said that during the altercation, one of them was shot. He added that the victim was identified as Rahul Sharma, aged around 34 and his friends took him to DMC Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.DCP said that in connection with the incident, Sadar police station registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections of the Arms Act.He added that case was registered on the statement of Piyush Sharma, Rahul’s brother-in-law, who lodged a complaint against eight people, including Akhil Joshi, Parmraj and Gagandeep, along with unknown accused.Police officer said that he wants to clarify that this appears to be a crime of passion, and there was no pre-existing enmity. He added that the youths had gathered to celebrate a friend’s birthday when an argument broke out and a shot was fired, resulting in Rahul’s death.DCP said that on the directions and supervision of Ludhiana Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma, four teams have been formed to apprehend the accused. He added that these include teams from the CIA and the local Sadar police station.Police officer said that police will arrest the accused soon.
