Chennai: Flagging problems faced by the public due to continuous increase in the level of roads, anti-corruption NGO Arappor Iyakkam has urged govt to make milling (removal of the blacktop) of roads mandatory before laying new ones, monitor road levels and provide relief to affected residents.People in several places have complained of flooding due to raised roads. The NGO has sent to chief minister C Joseph Vijay a report with photos of locations. It has also been sent to ministers for highways and rural development, secretaries and Greater Chennai Corporation commissioner.The NGO held contractors responsible for the problem. As roads become elevated, rainwater and sewage enter houses at a lower level, and also increases the risk of accidents, it said, calling for an expert committee to find solutions.For the report, 157 volunteers from across the state documented 245 locations over the past six weeks.
