Amritsar: An Amritsar court on Monday granted Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia anticipatory bail in connection with the Majitha police station confrontation case.Majithia was accused of tearing documents inside the police station and attempting to free one of his supporters, Jobanpreet Singh. The FIR against Majithia and others was registered on May 31, leading police to conduct continuous raids in an attempt to arrest him.SAD chief spokesperson and advocate Arshdeep Singh Kaler slammed the AAP govt after the court relief. “Court decisions are based on evidence, not on statements made by a chief minister,” he said, adding while Bhagwant Mann had previously made grand claims, it remains to be seen how he will respond now. He said Majithia had only gone to the police station to participate in a protest staged by Jobanpreet’s family and a farmer union demanding his release.Kaler said the Punjab and Haryana high court had already termed Jobanpreet Singh’s arrest unconstitutional and unethical.
