TNNLudhiana: Around one-and-a-half months after armed assailants opened fire at the residence of a cloth merchant following an extortion demand of Rs 5 crore, Punjab Police have made another arrest in the case. The accused has been identified as Suraj Singh Rajpurohit alias Mohit, a resident of Punjabi Bagh in Ambala Cantonment.Police said he is suspected of harbouring the main shooters involved in the incident. He was produced in a local court, which remanded him in two days of police custody. Khanna SSP Darpan Ahluwalia said Suraj escaped to Thailand when police started arresting his associates. He returned to India in Feb and was arrested by the Khanna police on March 2. Investigation revealed that the accused had purchased clothes for three of his accomplices in Ludhiana and delivered them to the jail. Further probe is underway.Around January end, more than a week after unidentified motorcycle-borne miscreants fired at the house of a cloth trader in Khanna, police arrested five persons in the case. Khanna police said that gangster Goldy Brar allegedly sent an audio clip to the cloth merchant in Dec end and demanded Rs 5 crore from him. The arrested accused were identified as Amit Kumar (40) of Gulmohar Nagar, Khanna, Ishwar Singh Randhawa (29) of Randhawa Street on Malerkotla road in Khanna, Vivek Watts (31) of Dakkoli in SAS Nagar district, Harpreet Singh (29) of Umarpura, Raikot and Parmveer Singh (29) of Bhamipur village in Hathur.
